In The Beginning…

A self tie, using a simple single column tie in an intense self suspension, with my new medium, silks.

The first thing I teach, when I teach rope, is a basic single column tie. It creates a secure tie for a single loop around an object or limb. It teaches us the very basics of how to create tension, how frictions can work in rope and a basic knot.

I took this simple tie and applied it to a significantly more advanced suspension session, on myself. It was very painful, not having the usual support a chest or hip harness provides. However, it does allow greater mobility in creating shapes with minimal support.

I’ve discovered using aerial silks to build my physical strength and flexibility: so I thought I’d see if I could incorporate it with my rope. And this is what I came up with.
